Domestic visitors make up 80pc of visitors to Legoland Malaysia
Legoland Malaysia, which is celebrating its first anniversary this Sunday, has exceeded its target of attracting a million visitors during its first year of operations. “We have had very good response to the park. The attendance since opening has exceeded our expectations of getting one million visitors in the past 12 months,” Legoland Malaysia said in a e-mail response to questions posed by Bernama here today.
The RM720 million theme park located in Johor’s administrative capital, Nusajaya, nevertheless do not disclose the number of visitors to external parties including to the media. According to Legoland Malaysia, domestic visitors make up 80 per cent of the visitors to the park, while the rest are international travellers.
Legoland Malaysia, with more that 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions, considers Singapore as a domestic or resident market due to its proximity to Malaysia. “Malaysians make up 50 per cent of the total number of visitors to the theme park,” said Legoland Malaysia, which was opened to the public on September 15 last year.
Khazanah Nasional’s recreation and tourism divison, Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn Bhd (TAR), Merlin Entertainments and Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB) collaborated to develop the theme park, located within Iskandar Malaysia. It is the first Legoland theme park in Asia and sixth in the world after Denmark, United Kingdom, California, Germany and Florida. Meanwhile, the Legoland Water Theme Park, located adjacent to Legoland Malaysia is slated to open its doors to the public on October 21.
With over 20 attractions and 70 models, the 300,000-sq metre water park is being touted by officials as the world’s largest Legoland Water Park. It is only the third Legoland Water Theme Park in the world after Calfornia and Florida. The Legoland Hotel will open next year. Source.
