61st UICH Les Clefs d’Or International Concierge Congress Malaysia

For the first time, Malaysia is hosting the 61st Union International des Concierge Hotels (UICH) Les Clefs d’Or International Concierge Congress from Jan 10 until Jan 15 in Kuala Lumpur. From the estimated 3,000 room nights set aside for this event alone, the congress is expected to generate tourism income amounting to more than RM3 million.

The event is seen as a fitting opening to the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 line-up of activities receives strong support from the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and its MICE arm, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau. It will be officiated by Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and the event patron, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

The event is expected to attract 600 to 700 attendees including more than 500 members of the concierge profession, associate and international honorary members from more than 45 member countries from North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Australia and Oceania. Malaysia was unanimously voted in April 2011 by the UICH International Board of Directors during the 58th Les Clefs d’Or International Congress in Toronto, Canada.

The congress provides a platform for members to interact and establish contacts with fellow concierges and develop strategic industry
partners across the globe. An education symposium will also be hosted. The programme line-up for the event includes a tour of Malacca and a Malaysia Hawker Fare at Dataran Merdeka, hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

For the first time, a corporate social responsibility initiative will be included into the programme, whereby delegates will spend a day of fun and games at Sunway Lagoon with the residents of Badan Amal Kasih Sayang Malaysia (BAKASA) Orphanage, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Ampuan Afzan, while a fund-raising programme in aid of BAKASA is also included.

Other tours include destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Malaysia National Park, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and several nearby islands. The Malaysian chapter of Les Clefs d’Or (Society of the Golden Keys) president Ragu Kumarasamy heads the host committee, which also comprises the society members and officials from its executive committee. – Source by Malaysian Reserve.
